A man has been charged with attempted murder at Jersey’s Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.
Antonio Cidade Barbosa is 54 and born in Portugal. He wore a white fleece top and open-neck brown check shirt. He was assisted in court by an interpreter.
Barbosa is charged with attempting to murder Maria Barbosa at an address known as Les Arbes, 31, Les Quennevais Park in the Parish of St. Brelade between 6pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday 26 March 2013.
Barbosa was questioned by police and held in custody for more than 36 hours.
He will be remanded in custody until April 11th and will appear before the Royal Court on May 10.
There was no application for bail.
He’s alleged to have stabbed his partner multiple times at their home at Les Quennevais Park on Tuesday evening.
The 55-year-old woman is still in hospital and is being described as in a stable condition.
A neighbour of the couple told ITV News Channel TV of his shock at the events of Tuesday night.
Brian White had seen them earlier in the day, but heard nothing until a number of Police vehicles arrived on the scene in Les Quennevais just after 6.30pm. He said, "You read about these things, but don't expect it on your doorstep."
