It was the battle of the champions and to begin with the Siam Cup between Guernsey and Jersey was a fairly even affair.

With a strong wind behind them Jersey gained an early 3 point advantage with a Ross Broadfoot penalty kick, but Guernsey were redoubt in defence and kept Jersey at Bay for 20 minutes until Jersey were awarded a penalty try after a period of intense pressure. The conversion stretched the Jersey lead to 10.

Soon after Guy Thompson scored Jersey's second try from a tryline scrum. Broadfoot cleverly used the tailing wind to make the conversion.

After 30 minutes Scottish international Glenn Bryce went over the line for Jersey's third. With no conversion the score remained Guernsey 0 Jersey 22.

In the last minute of the first half, Jersey's superior strength was rewarded with another pushover try. A Broadfoot conversion made the half-time score Guernsey 0 Jersey 29.

In the second half Guernsey came out strongly, taking advantage of the wind to pressure the Jersey defence which has been the cornerstone of the Reds' advance to the Championship this season. Jersey's Toby Clyde-Smith suffered a knee injury and hobbled from the pitch to be replaced by James Voss.

Twenty minutes into the second half Guernsey came close to opening their account and looked to have scored a try, but to the chagrin of the home crowd the referee said there was no try. Moments later Guernsey hulk Leyton Batiste was at the centre of the action as Guernsey again charged over the line, but once more the try was not given.

Guernsey maintained the pressure against Jersey who were on the backfoot for much of the second half and looked the more likely to score. They tossed aside the three-league difference between the sides to look the most menacing. They had blanked the visitors, preventing them from adding to the half-time score - a feat many of Jersey's National League One opponents had failed to do in the last season.

The second-half was all Guernsey who had shown why they have also been enjoying unprecendented success over the last two seasons. The final score Guernsey 0 - Jersey 29.
