Boat owners in Jersey have rejected plans to get rid of mud moorings in St Helier. Last month Jersey Harbours said they wanted to turn the Old Harbour into a permanent marina.
Boat owner groups have been consulting their members for the past month and last night they voted against the idea.
Boat owners have made their feelings clear. They don't want to see any mud moorings disappear in this area. Jersey Harbours have proposed to flood the Old Harbour - creating a marina permanently filled with water.
They think that would tidy up the area and give more spaces to boat owners who use their vessels more often. But that would involve scrapping a proportion of the dry berths.
Bosses at Jersey Harbours say they value the feedback and want everyone's views before making decisions on what to keep and what to change. At this early stage they're not promising anything. There'll be another meeting between all parties on Monday. But already boat owner groups say they'll seek political intervention if their voices aren't heard.

Leave the drying berths as they are. Its all about property developers making money from surrounding land in the area.
