Jersey States are once again attempting political reform.
This time the reshuffle focuses on time wasting, unlike previous efforts to reduce the number of politicians.
In January States members will be invited to give their views on States efficiency at a series of scheduled hearings.
Chairman of the Privileges and Procedures Committee, Constable Juliette Gallichan says members have expressed concerns that meetings are getting longer, with ministerial, scrutiny and constituency work having to be squeezed into a shorter amount of time.
But the review isn't just about time management. The intellectual ability of States members to understand and respond to propositions and amendments will also be under the microscope.
If previous reform debates are anything to go by, they're likely to be long and drawn out. Resulting in….. no change whatsoever?

"The intellectual ability of States members to understand and respond to propositions and amendments will also be under the microscope". About time, i would have been sacked years ago if i was not up to the job required of me. Unfortunately our polititians are not voted in on their ability!

Any debate involving Syvret is a waste of time now. In fact on the subject of Syvret maybe they should have a referendum on States members that are a complete waste of space?

Can anyone think of a states member wasting time and missing work in London?

I just read this link on a web forum.
I can think of a few proposals which question the intellectual ability of States members - free tv licenses, double decker buses, civil servant wage rises and interference with telecom and Jersey Water. I would bring the elusive Syvret into the equation but he is really a member of the public now.
