The Olympic Flame will pay a whistle-stop visit to both Guernsey and Jersey on Sunday 15 July next year.
The islands are two of just six in the British Isles to form part of The Olympic Flame tour which will begin in Land's End in May and end at the Olympic Stadium in July in time for the opening ceremony.
Islanders can apply, or nominate others, to be torch-bearers on the London 2012 website.
Sebastian Coe, Chair of the Organising Committee, said: "We are thrilled that Guernsey and Jersey have agreed to host the Olympic Flame on its journey right across the UK.
"The Olympic Flame will shine a light right across the Bailiwicks, celebrating their culture and heritage and showcasing the very best of the islands."
David de Carteret, from Jersey Tourism, said a team from London would be in Jersey on 8 June to discuss the route, which has almost been decided upon and will be officially released around the 9 June.
Deputy Mike O'Hara, Guernsey's Culture and Leisure Minister, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Guernsey and the Bailiwick, which will give all sports people of whatever ability great incentive to feel they can be part of the Olympic dream.
"We are looking into making the whole day a sports day that would involve many types of children's and family sports activities along the St Peter Port seafront."
The six islands the flame will visit are: the Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey, Shetland, Orkney and the Isle of Lewis.
Which Channel Islander would you nominate to carry the Olympic torch?
You can also make your official nominations on the Olympic website: http://www.olympic.org

Why should the Olympic torch not come to Sark (and perhaps Alderney)?

How about Elizabeth Cann - she represents Jersey on the world stage and does exceptionally well. Jersey should recognise excellence.

I would like to nominate Mr Rop Clayden to carry the Olympic Torch as per the May 18th article. He is the epitome of all things sporting, and it would be fitting to see him leave his mark on this ceremonial event.
