How does a 14 year old boy come to write a book about the history of aviation in Alderney?
It all stems from Edward Pinneger's long held passion for planes and according to his Mum, a specific gift he received as a young boy.
Edward's mum, Anne Noel said:"He was given a flight simulator by his godmother when he was quite young and he had a great interest in reading maps and aerial maps in bookshops when he was young. He used to never go to the childrens section, he preferred the map section."
Edward's obsession with planes has resulted in an exciting new chapter in his life. He said:" Well it's a funny subject to write about but it's the one topic that hasn't been documented in Alderney's history and I've always liked aviation and ever since I've been coming to Alderney I've loved it, so combine the two and it was kind of up to me to write it."
And now he has, Edward has the full backing of his family and friends. Edward said:"Oh they're very supportive. They find it quite funny, obviously, that a 14-year-old would write a book. It has the potential to be really dull, so I've tried to make it funny with funny stories and anecdotes and things, so its not that boring."
50 % of the proceeds from his book will go to the Channel Islands Air Search charity, and it'll be available for you to buy from the 5th of August.
