Local Shipping giant Huelin Renouf has started a freight service to and from Alderney.
After successful sea trials last month the company will sail to and from Braye Harbour twice a week, linking the islands most northerly port directly to Jersey, Southampton and UK markets nationwide.
During the trials a new local maritime record was set. The newly-renovated commercial quay welcomed its largest ever visitor - the 86-metre MV Huelin Dispatch which had called in while en route from Jersey to Southampton.

I believe that there is a restriction of the Huelin Renouf boat operating into Alderney, if the weather is over a force 4 (Beaufort scale) then the vessel is not allowed to enter the port of Braye Harbour.
How many times is Huelin Renouf going to operate a service to a port when there is not sufficient cargo to make it financially viable????

Great news for the Islands, Freight charges are so very high at the moment something needed to be done.
Alderney Shipping have been running a boat for years dedicated to Alderney and have provided a great service although they have never seemed to make money despite the extremly high freight charges........ maybe the answer to cheaper shipping is to be a part of something bigger. Really, It;s been staring us in the face all this time. The Huelin Renouf boats have been sailing past Alderney for years, why not drop in to Alderney a couple of times a week on their way past........SIMPLES!
