Rob Moore reports...
Guernsey airport will be closed today as the redevelopment of the runway and airfield is carried out.
It is the second day of four two-day closures.
It will stay closed until Thursday morning and will mean delays for mail and papers over the coming days.
Most of the project is being done at night, but some work, like the reconstruction of concrete aprons, has to be done during the day.
After this week, there will be three more two-day closures, later this year.
Malcolm Hart, of Aurigny, said: "It's hundreds of thousands of pounds of revenue that we simply won't get.
"Fortunately yesterday, the last day before the closure, we were very, very busy and on Thursday we were very, very busy as well.
"I feared that because the airport was closed for Tuesday and Wednesday that people might not travel just in case they were to get stuck.
"Fortunately that doesn't seem to be the case so that's cushioned the blow."

Why don't the authorities coordinate people and freight being catered for by use of high speed ferries and flights in and out of jersey for the days that guernsey airport is closed? I'm sure condor would cooperate with suitable changes to sailing times as well as the airlines and road transport operators.

Nice to hear the birds singing so low, without being drowned out by noisy engines :-)
