Tamara Timothy reports...
Students in Alderney have been using new technology to bridge the Channel.
They have set up a video-link to let them talk to pupils at their twinned school in France.
It is hoped it will bring Normandy and Alderney that little bit closer and maybe even improve their French.
St Anne's students have been chatting with the Beaumont Hague school in France.
French teacher, Sally Pond said: "We're probably going to do it every two weeks from now on, and the pupils have got an awful lot from it so far.
"They're excited, they've met real French people, they haven't actually spoken any French yet because that wasn't the purpose of today but they've listened to some real French and they've started to understand real French as it's spoken not just French in the classroom."
A host of technical problems has meant the project has taken three years to get off the ground.
The St Anne's students will be travelling to France later this year to meet the Beaumont Hague pupils at their local Festival of Arts.
For that they are due to work on projects together so they should have plenty to talk about.

This is truly why I love this beautiful Island. Only 3 years to get a video link to France. Who knows by the time we get to speak to the French children some one might have invented the telephone!

@Peter - First thing that came into my head also.
What is the bet it is a Video Conference unit on decades old technology necessitating the need for ISDN lines.
Boggles the mind really, Skype (And other similar products) would not only be fit for purpose but it would be simpler, more resilient and just as good quality as any dedicated video link you could install.
Would also link you to not just France but Germany, Spai....well - the rest of the world really eh?

Whats wrong with Skype? Surely it can't take them 3 years to setup a Skype account
