Sark residents celebrated their Liberation Day on Monday 10th May. British soldiers arrived to free the population the day after they came to Guernsey and Jersey.
Sark chose to mark Liberation Day in a similar fashion to the rest of the Channel Islands. It started off with a church parade from La Collinette led by a marching band of the Guernsey Boys' Brigade. Many ex-service personnel and other dignitaries had made the trip to the island to join in the celebrations.
An open air service took place outside St Peter's Church to give thanks for Sark's release from five years of German rule and its continued freedom to this day.
Then it was on to the Millennium Field for the entire parade to line up ready for a formal inspection. It was there that the Lieutenant Governor took the salute from the assembled parade. Even Sark's oldest resident, Fred Teers was there with his medals.
Lastly, the visitors from the Royal Hospital Chelsea had brought with them sweets which were sure to go down well with the youngest Sark residents.
