Brian Constantine spoke to John Boothman about Jersey’s future without the finance industry
Mr Boothman has worked for over thirty years in the offshore finance environment and, during that time, Jersey has become increasingly dependent on banking and financial services.
Despite recent global difficulties, the industry looks to be in good shape. But nothing lasts forever.
At a recent IoD lunch Mr Boothman adressed the members with a speech entitled ‘What if the banks did a bunk?
Jersey after the finance industry’ considers what Jersey – and in particular the Jersey economy – would look like without its premier wealth-creator, and what steps we should be taking now to ensure the Island has a viable future.
John Boothman was born in London in 1952 but has lived and worked in Jersey since 1972. He joined Morgan Grenfell, a merchant bank, in 1974 and retired as Managing Director of Deutsche Bank International Limited in 2002.
Since then he has served on the boards of several companies as well as public sector bodies and charities. He is chairman of the Jersey Telecom Group and the Aztec Group, a director of Jersey International Business School and a trustee of The Stroke Association.
