True unemployment level is 2,500

The latest census report in Jersey shows the island's true unemployment figures - which are nearly twice as high as the number registered with Social Security.

The census showed a total population of 97,857, and 52,522 people were of working age with 82% of them in work.

That was the same as at the last census ten years' ago.

The total unemployment figure in March last year stood at 2,534 - that's a thousand more than the number registered as unemployed with Social Security.click here for more
