Is exporting Guernsey's waste the solution for both islands?

A waste consultant has thrown his weight behind those who say Guernsey's rubbish should be exported to Jersey.

The islands had shelved the idea several years ago. But with criticism of the size of Jersey's new incinerator ongoing and a fresh campaign to persuade Guernsey deputies to scrap plans for a plant at Longue Hougue, export of waste is being touted as a solution.

Alan Watson from Public Interest Consultants said: "Jersey's actually quite close to Guernsey and it's only the sort of distance that many authorities in the mainland are shipping their waste to other incinerators."
